Our Mailbox Makeover

Our first mailbox looked very similar

to this one,

only ours was white and did not 

have a reflector,

so, to me, it was sort of cute...

Until...

Winter came,

and one of these

took my mailbox

down the road.

This is a very common

occurrence in Pinetop, AZ

So..

My hubbie said we had to get 

one of these:

It swivels at the bottom,

so, when we leave for the winter,

we can turn it to the side to keep

the mean ole snow plow

from taking it out.

There was just one problem..

It was UGLY!

We tried to get Ivy to grow up the 

posts, but the Ivy just didn't grow.

When I was doing the mosaic on the 

table and stepping stone, ( if you missed that 
post you can see it here )

I looked out at the mailbox

and that was the end of the ugly,

in my head.

I started to cut more china and I started gluing..

I used silicone to glue so it would withstand the cold.

Here is a picture closer up..

I was just getting started.

Now I have the post glued..

This took a lot of time, folks!

And the grouting... Oh My!

The china was not all the same

thickness and I didn't care since

 it being level was not an issue,

But

I 

ended

up 

using

my 

fingers

to 

grout.

hands

but it was worth it!

I am trying to decide if I should paint the flag a lighter

shade of pink.

My husband had me look up the regulations for the color

of mailbox flags...

Pink appears to be O.K.

It was not listed like most other colors as a no, no....

The red is sort of faded, so because of the severe winters,

I am leaning towards leaving it alone.

Oh, and something very important,

I did not do the very bottom

so the post can be turned so all 

my hard work will not be

taken out by the snow plow!

Two years ago tonight,

my daughter was killed.

Two years ago tonight, 

I did not know...

Two years ago tomorrow,

I got the call...

The coroner did not pronounce death

until tomorrow, June 8, 2010..

but in all reality,

the death certificate should have read

June 7, 2010.....

Either way,

she is gone,

I am here...

and time heals...

but even after

two years...

my heart is broken...

not broken just because

she is gone...

but broken because

even when she was here

she was gone......

and no one knew how to make

her be Here and Whole...

She is whole now

while I am still 

here. 

Even though

my heart

aches,

it 

rejoices,

that

now

she

is 

whole.

So, as you can see, 

in between mosaicing 

there has been some gardening going on!

Today I am cutting more china for the mail box post..

I got the white paint stripped off of it yesterday.

I think there will just be a random mosaic, with no particular design on the post since it is so large and round. I am not really worried either about it being so even. After all, a wine glass will not be resting on it!

I will see how it looks and decide if I will put a focal on the mailbox.

Grouted Mosaics And Ugly Mailbox

 Yesterday I grouted the table and the stepping stone below.

They are far from perfect but I love them.

I still want to distress the table more and I need to give it a coat of wax....

BuT...

 The Ugly Mailbox

When it snows in the winter and the nice plow men plow the roads, sometimes these nice plow men remove more than snow. Our mailbox, along with several others, over the years, have been taken out and dragged here and there.

When this happened the last time, my husband insisted we put up a box that would not be taken away.... thus the Ugly Mailbox.

I tried growing Ivy in hopes the Ivy would cover up the ugliness of the metal post. It has been over two years and it is pretty obvious...not working!

Yesterday, as I was grouting the table and stepping stone

( by the way, I have 33 more stepping stones which are crying out...make me pretty! ) I looked out at the mailbox and it hit me..... I need to mosaic it!

Sooooooooo, off to town I went to get stripper and advice on what the best adhesive, grout, etc. would be to survive the snowy winters here in Pinetop, AZ.

Today my goal is to get the paint stripped off and cut more tile. 

Wish me luck..

I don't want an UgLy mailbox!

Somehow, even bills are easier to handle when removed from a pretty mailbox!

then again, I had never cut and glued vintage china to anything before either. I am hoping it will be wonderful

We all stopped to smell the flowers and take in the scent of a perfect evening.

We were all asked to bring an appetizer and wear a favorite apron.

But wouldn't you know, it happened this morning..

I discovered I was out of coffee...

Hubby still sleeping...

Decided to run to the closest Circle K to get my FAVORITE

coffee...

Now folks, when I say favorite...I MEAN... FAVORITE!!!!

One of the influencing factors of buying the condo in Destin, Fl. 

was there was a Circle K right between the condo and beach.

I forgot to put my glasses on, I was so desperate to get to the K to get coffee...

And then the dreaded words...

"It has been discontinued...no longer available...nationwide...

they changed ALL their coffee flavors."

WHAT???????????????

WHY??????????????

"I don't know", he says.

"There are a lot of upset customers.

I don't even like their house blend now and I work here."

This cup contains Hazelnut coffee with Hazelnut creamer....

Let me tell you,

It is NOT the same...

I am DESPERATE!

I will be trying to figure out a way to contact Circle K...

The television series might be over but in real life

there are still Desperate Housewives

and
